On The Buses

Andrew Johnstone is a writer, columnist and Free FM content creator. In his words; “In early April I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I came across a post from the Waipa District Council announcing that a brand new fleet of 6 electric buses would soon be plying the routes between Te Awamutu, Cambridge and Kirikiriroa/Hamilton. My excitement was tempered when I began reading the comments thread, which turned out was a litany of negativity. Dismayed by the response, I devoted my May Waikato Times column to the subject and as I dashed of the last sentence I realised that I’ve never actually travelled in an electric vehicle. With that in mind I recently I rode one of the new buses from Cambridge to Kirikiriroa/Hamilton and on the way I talked to Connor Mear from Tranzit NZ and two of the drivers, Sandy Nicolson and Graham Matthews.
